RV 320 Won't pass internet traffic through to SMC modems

We recently installed an RV320 to use primarily as a gateway for FTP traffic. The router is installed feed 2 60/10 circuits from our isp which supplied 2 SMC edge devices which have both Wifi and router capabilities. When connect to the modems in the factory default state the RV320 connects but does not take advantage of the dual connections in terms of speed. When we disable the modems wifi and router functions the RV 320 connects but does not pass traffic through to the modems.

Since both the modems are identical we get the same IP and gateway info from each. I would prefer not to have the modems in router mode. Is there a setting on the RV that will allow it to connect and pass internet traffic with the modems in the "dumbed down" mode.

Hi Graham,

The best scenario is to have the both SMC routers on bridge mode and configure both WAN interface on RV320 with (PPPE,Static IP, DHCP ...  it depense from your WAN type connection )

Can you please share with us which type of WAN connection you are using in SMC routers ?

- On RV320 Ensure you have the latest firmware 1.1.0.09 if not you can download it from this link :

http://software.cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=284005929&softwareid=282465789&release=1.1.0.09&relind=AVAILABLE&rellifecycle=&reltype=latest

- On RV320 under System Management--> Dual WAN and check Load Balance

- after that you configure the RV320 with the same type of WAN connection as SMC router and switch the SMC router in Bridge mode, and in this case you should see the both public IP address on RV320 by checking System Summary

If you make this steps and still you can't have the public IP address on RV320 and the SMC router in Bridge mode, please share with us the config file of RV320 and screenshots from the both SMC regarding WAN configuration

If in case the SMC router doesn't have option to working in Bridge mode, in this case you need to have the both local of SMC with different subnet ex. 192.168.1.1/24 and other one 192.168.2.1/24

on RV320 you can leave the WNA configuration in DHCP on both WAN (if you have DHCP server enable in SMC router) or you can setup static IP on both wan

Hi the Wan connection is  a cable IPV4, 60 down, 10 Up connection x 2 circuits

The system is set up for DHCP and load balance

The routers can be put in bridge mode and I have tried that unscuessfuly. I do get 2 different public IP's and DNS entries

But when I check the SYstem settings it shows both ports as connected but "inactive". The public IP's are DCHP not static.

ONly when I switch back to the router mode on the modems do I get connectivity. At that point both modems issue the same IP and subnet to the RV 320, so I don't believe I am getting balnced load sharing with the modems in router mode.
