RV042 RV110w site-site Dynamic DNS VPN

I have been attempting to setup a site to site vpn between RV042 and RV110w. I followed the recommendations in other threads, however all of the advice suggests unchecking 'aggressive mode' on the RV042. Unfortunately that is NOT a possibility, as aggressive mode becomes enabled by default when you choose 'dynamic ip + FQDN' as the

Remote Security Gateway Type.

What I have is

RV042 with static ip address

remote security gateway: 'dynamic ip +FQDN'

RV110W with dynamic dns through 'noip'.

remote security gateway: 'ip'

Aggressive mode is fine.  If you set both IPs to static (even if they are dynamic) and configure them that way, do they connect?  If not, there's something else not set up correctly.
