RV082/16 ver.3 vs ver.4

What is the difference? Hardware? Software? Why one would want to upgrade. I have RV082 and RV016 and both have some flaws with software that never were fixed. Where can I get DETAIL information about new hardware version 4 and its 4.0.0.7 firmware?

Is content filtering has been fixed (only works with http but not with https)

Port forwarding - you can only open port but not remap them (ex 9000 to 8000)

Are there any new futures that has been added? Anyone know of review online?

Thank you

Actually the new hardware version out for the RVxxx series of routers is Version 3. The new version 3- RVxxx uses the 4.0.0.7 Firmware.

The older RVxxx series is the  Version 2 Hardware and you cannot use the 4.0.0.7 Firmware for the version 2 hardware.

New Features  for the Version 3 Hardware:

§Bonjour discovery protocol (FindIT support)
§Password complexity enforcements
§Export config as text file
§Dual config files
§Cisco style GUI
§IPv6 support

Hope this helps.

THANKS

>Export config as text file

I don't think the text-based config file is supported in the current firmware.

Beside software change are there any hardware changes? (CPU :  Intel IXP425-533, DRAM : 32M, Flash: 16M) Faster processor, More memory? I remember reading somewhere on the net some were speculating that the older versions would be too slow for 50-100Mb lines. Would this new verson address this?

Any screens shots of the UI?

Can you ssh to device and operate from shell?

BTW where can you get on online? Most placess still cary old Linksys models.

Thanx

I am almost certain that the hardware has changed with the RV0xx version 3. This would explain the new firmware not being compatible with the previous hardware. Unfortunately I do not have any details at this time and I'm not sure if there will be a noticeable improvement. I will have to look into getting some screenshots of the new UI. In the meantime, please go to the following page and take a look at some of the "dummy" UIs posted there:

https://supportforums.cisco.com/community/netpro/small-business/onlinedemos

You can expect the RV0xx to look similar to those devices. Most customers that I have spoken with find the pages very clean and easy to navigate compared to the customary UI. At the bottom of that page you can click the link "Send Online Device Manager Feedback" and request that RV0xx series UIs be added.

I followed a link from www.cisco.com to a reseller site that appears to carry the latest hardware versions. You can find that reseller at: http://www.zones.com/site/home/index.html I suspect that most of the popular resellers will have the latest hardware at this time. Many probably just haven't updated their photos yet. I would contact the reseller before purchasing to be certain.

To add to my previous post, the release notes do mention a performance increase. "Hardware Version 3 has improved performance and supports all the features of earlier versions of the RV0xx Series products, except for the dual-image feature of RV082/RV016. The firmware and configuration file are not compatible with earlier hardware versions."

Does it support remote management trough ssh?

Thanx
