RV082 and RV016 blocking sites has some serious problems

I have RV082 and RV016 running latest firmware (pre hardware version 4). If I try to enable web filerfing under "Content Filter" by web address or keyword it ony works for NONE HTTP sites. Lets say I try to block www.facebook.com or by keyword facebook I get "This URLs or Page has been blocked"

If I type https://www.facebook.com (Secure HTTPS) I get to face book no problem. It looks like only HTTP is checked and blocked.

Also enabling "Scheduling" as "Apply the rule From" 20:00 to 19:00 leaving only one hour for access (from 7P to 8PM) does not work for some reason.

I tried with Everyday or all other days checked.

Also big problem with this router is not having abylity to remap ports. You can only open port but not remap from different external port to different internal. Support is also very slow on fixig such issues. I thin since there is a version 4 such items will not be fixed in version <= 3.

Does anyone know if pre version 4 (Jan 2011) will be getting any updates?

Hi Robert,

Thank you for posting. Regarding Content Filter, have you tried blocking https://www.facebook.com? Also, your scheduling rule shows "20:00 to 19:00" which is 8:00-7:00. I don't know if you mistyped this or not, have you tried 19:00 to 20:00?

Regarding Port Mapping, I found a link a while ago that shows exactly how to perform this on the RV0xx routers:

http://www.gordonstacey.com/?p=12

You will need to do the port mapping under UPnP. Please let us know if this helps.

Hmm. I guess that will work. It never occured to me to be located under UPnP. I was looking under Forwarding where it make sence.

I remember talking on the phone to support abut it and he was also perplexled why this is missing under Forwarding and was not aware of it under UPnP until now. Thank you.

As far as blocking certain website. I just tried to add

www.facebook.com,

http://www.facebook,

https://www.facebook.com to Forbidden Domains per your suggestion

And still if I type https://www.facebook.com I can still enter the site. If I type http://www.facebook.com I get This URLs or Page has been blocked.

All above is with Scheduling set to Always.

Now as far as time restriction goes I do not belive it is a typo. I am trying the rule to be inforced most of the time.

From 20:00 till 19:00 to really it should be allow access for one hour from 7PM till 8PM. If I specify 19:00 to 20:00 PM it would be ony inforced for one hour and open for 23 hours. Am I reading it wrong?

Also selecting Everyday has different (and should be the same) effect as selecting each day individaully.

Thanx.

Robert,

I'm glad to hear that the UPnP is what you are looking for. This is certainly not well documented. Regarding URL blocking I have nothing to add at this time. I'll need to get my hands on an RV0xx and see what I can come up with. I see your logic regarding the time. You may want to try enforcing the rule from midnight to 7:00pm, then from 8:00pm to midnight. I'm not sure the router understands your logic as well as we do.

Please keep us updated.

Thank you,

I do not belive you can set "multiple" times. I do not see any way to add "From - To" for multiple times. Perhaps I am missing something?

Also does RV082 support ssh for remote menegement? I know there was a hack to do telnet but that as we all know it not secure.

If you please could post screenshots to new UI. I would like to review it before I commit to buying new device.

As far as old device goes, such devices are @ the end of life? and there will be no more updates? If there will be when can we expect it. It has been a while since last update and looking around forums/inet there are people who has some of their own issues.

I am specificly interested in site blocking and port forwarding UI screen (it would be nice to see them all ).

Does such portforwarding is also located unte UPnP?

Thanx

Any news about site or keyword blocking with https on new version 3 routers. This is what is holding me down before I get new unit since older will most likely not get upgraded anymore. Please let me know if it works. Also the time restrictions.

URL filtering (including keyword blocking) on version 3 routers is applied to HTTP traffic only. Other traffic such as HTTPs or FTP is exempt.

Will this be changed? How useful is such filter if person can easily get around it? Perhaps firmware update?

Is version 3 has 8 1G ports or still 100Mb? Do you know what is the speed of processor? Architecture? (from top of setup page)

I am trying to decide between this unit (Cisco), DrayTek - Vigor3200 and NETGEAR ProSafe Gigabit Quad SRX5308-100NAS

Thanx
