We have a RV082 V03 being used as a gateway that was bought in mid 2011. The firmware version that came with it was v4.0.0.07. Up until we upgraded to firmware v4.2.1.02(Upgraded in Jan.2013), we would have to restart the router once every month due to loss of internet connectvity and it locking up. After I upgraded it to the 4.2.1.02, it gradually starting increasing from rebooting the router once a month, to once a week, then to multiple times a day. Today, I upgraded the firmware to the latest version being v4.2.2.08 and it has not froze up since the upgrade, but then again, it happens randomly through the day so it might not happen until tomorrow morning so we will see how this goes. During the time when it looses connectivity, I CANNOT get to the web gui or even ping the RV082 device. The lights on the RV082 are blinking like it is working though. This router is not even 2 years old yet and cannot believe that it would be dying already. Has anyone else ran into this problem and/or have any suggestions on things I could do to troubleshoot if it is hardware, etc.?
Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks,
Allison

What you describe sounds exactly what I deal with on the rv016 series. I have a script that I use to just automatically reboot them every day. You could have them automatically reboot every 4hrs or whatever you need them to do.
If you don't need anything in the newer firmwares, go back to the one that had you rebooting every month. Newer isn't always better when it comes to firmwares. Remember--'don't fix it unless it's broken.'

The reason for the firmware upgrade was because it fixed an issue in which we were experiencing. Otherwise I would NOT have upgraded the firmware whatsoever. Did you contact anyone from Cisco about your issue? I just don't feel like I should have to create a script to reboot the router because of a fault in their product, that's all....
Thanks for your feedback on your issues.

I've spent two months talking to Cisco about the issue, and there's several issues here that are well-documented. It's a consumer-level business router, aka 'as cheap as you can get'. And 'you get what you pay for', so I think the service is just a part of the price. I didn't feel like spending $1000 on another router that won't go down, and once I set up my scripts, I really don't even notice the reboots. Just a nice rock-solid router for cheap.
PM me if you want a copy of the script. It's just a single line you can even put in a browser. Another thing that works wonders is an indoor lamp timer from Lowes or Home Depot--1m of downtime, 23:59 of uptime everyday. I'll be implementing this at another site where the script doesn't seem to always work.

Sure--might not work since it's been 10 years of updates at this point, but I've PM'd it to you.
