RV325 Basic VLAN Multi-Subnet Inter-Vlan Configuration

Hi All. Really basic setup here.

RV325 ------VLAN A

|         |

B       C

In a test environment trying to setup new office network with goal of

3 - VLAN (A, B, C)

A 192.168.1.1

B 192.168.2.1

C 192.168.3.1

Want Hosts on A to communicate with B and vice versa

Want C to be completely isolated

I dont have another switch in place. I was under the impression that the RV325 would do exactly what I am asking for here.

From a fresh factory reset

1. Basic setup with passwords etc

2. Enable VLAN and InterVLAN routing in Port Management

3. Connect desktop to port 2 and configure static IP on VLAN B

4. From desktop on port 1 with DHCP for VLAN A, attempt ping of Host on port 2. None received.

This seems like it should be very simple yet I am having a problem with this. Maybe its just not possible with equipment. My hunch is I may need a smart switch to give the rv325 a routing only job instead of a layer 3? I've tried this more than a few times after resetting to factory.

Thank you for taking the time

~Scott

Hi Scott,
if you are planing to have a VLAN setup, i am proposing to use L2 switch or L3 switch like SG250 or SG350 to handle VLAN. use router to do routing part. also if you are using L3 switch like SG350, you can do routing it self.

Hi Kasun
Thank you for the quick reply. Is there any reason for this? I understand
that those switches will have better suited hardware to manage switching
data at high volume and speeds, but is that the reason for your
recommendation? Should this be possible in a test environment?

Thank you for your assistance.

Best Regards
Scott

Hi Scott,
actually if we are using switches, we can easily maintain VLANs and VLAN tags from device. in routers, you may need to configure encapsulations and those may not understand by direct connected hosts. that was my one concern :)
but still there should be a way to do that using only router.

Thank you for the quick response. So I have ordered an sg250 to test the
reccomendation you made. However, I would still like to try to set this up
using the RV325 if possible as you have suggested. I have an elementary
understanding of tag/untagged/exlcuded ports. Are you saying that this is
merely a misconfiguring of tagged/untagged/excluded ports or would you have
to dig in deeper to say? I could compensate for a consult if you are
willing.
