Smart Link Backup Not Switching to secondary wan when primary fails

SubbaMe

Level 1

I have RV042 10/100 4-Port VPN Router and I have set up dual WAN to Smart Link Backup and WAN1 as primary.

WAN1 Configuration Details:

Upstream : 12500 Kbit/Sec

Downstream: 12500 Kbit/Sec

Enable Network Service Detection : Checked

Retry count : 5

Retry timeout : 30 seconds

When Fail : Keep System Log and Remove the Connection

Default Gateway : Checked

ISP Host : Unchecked

Remote Host : Checked and set to 8.8.8.8

DNS Lookup Host : Checked and set to google.com

WAN2 Configuration Details:

Upstream : 12500 Kbit/Sec

Downstream: 12500 Kbit/Sec

Enable Network Service Detection : Checked

Retry count : 5

Retry timeout : 30 seconds

When Fail : Keep System Log and Remove the Connection

Default Gateway : Checked

ISP Host : Unchecked

Remote Host : Checked and set to 8.8.8.8

DNS Lookup Host : Checked and set to cisco.com

The issue is that it does not switch to WAN2 when WAN1 is offline and ping to 8.8.8.8 returns Request Timed Out.

My Device Details:
RV042 10/100 4-Port VPN Router
Firmware Version: v4.2.3.14

I have tried rebooting reconfiguring and still, it does not work as expected. Any kindly of help will be highly appreciated. Thank you.

this may not be great help but if you not come across check the config again.

Other test, you can flip the WAN2 as primary and WAN1 as back and test if that works ?

suggest to post screenshot of configs

Hi,

Please uncheck the ‘Default Gateway’ option, reduce the ‘Retry Count’ to 3 and ‘Retry Timeout’ to 3 seconds.

After that, please make sure both the Internet links are working fine individually and accordingly verify the Smart Link back up option. I hope it will work.

Once both the WAN links are up that time shut down one WAN connectivity, Internet should work fine via the other WAN link.
