If my service provider delivers a circuit with a 10Gb LAN-PHY handoff can I use a standard 10Gb Ethernet port (with the appropriates optics) or do I need a SPA-1X10GE-WL-V2 (Cisco 1-Port 10-Gigabit Ethernet LAN/WAN-PHY SPA with the appropriates optics) ? Or is that SPA only needed if its a WAN-PHY handoff?
Trying to understand when this SPA would be used and if its needed for this kind of circuit/handoff.

Hello,
your handoff is probably a single mode fiber 10G ? I used to work for an ISP, and we were always reluctant to let our customers access anything they could misconfigure, such as the LAN/WAN PHY controllers on SPAs.
Best advice would obviously be to ask your provider...which provider is it ?

In general, you only need the correct hardware to connect the link. Hardware doesn't really care whether its actually a LAN or a WAN hand-off. However, certain modules support additional features, often useful for WAN links, such as advanced QoS. Usefulness of such features might be a more relevant question when selecting what you want to use for your hardware.
