I have recently bought a new 1841 for my home lab but when I turn it on, I see the attached picture through console port.
When I press "Enter", it constantly prints "5". Has anyone seen this before? Any suggestions?

new or used ? I think this is when your console settings do not match to device; in particularly speeds must match between your terminal software and a device. boot to ROMMON and check speed setting. default is 9600 but admins change it to the fastest available to copy stuff vai console.
also, try if u have , Putty, securCRT, etc
do u have any other way access it? via network, telnet ?
default terminal settings are : 9600, 8, 1, none, none

When I turn this used device on, the weird output shows. I used 9600 baudrate using Putty. It is something I have never seen before. I don't have access to the anything whatsoever. Take a look at the attached picture again.

same "weird output" from when router is in ROMMON mode? or from normal mode ?
you should be able to connect when router is in ROMMON mode and check and edit router setting to match your putty.

wierd output like you post is frequently an indication of mismatch of speed between the physical console port and the terminal emulator. My suggestion is to start with the lowest speed setting for your emulator 1200 and test increasing the speed up to 115000 and see if one of those speed setting allows you to establish normal communication.
