2 different subnets sharing one printer and file server

Hi Guys

Cisco newbie here.

Question.

Can 2 different subnets lets say 192.168.1.x AND 10.10.6.X share the same printer (10.10.6.10) and fileserver 192.168.1.10.  Thanks for your help

Hello,

not without a layer 3 device (router or L3 capable switch)...or put an additional network card in both the printer and the file server, for the purpose of assigning IP addresses from both subnets...

Ok...

Is the Cisco Catalyst 3500 a L3 Switch

Hello,

post the output of 'show version' so we can see which model you have...

Thanks

Hello,

you have a (very old) 3500XL switch, which does layer 2 only, unfortunately...

How can I tell if it's a L2 or L3 from the show ver

Thanks

Hello,

the 'show ver' tells you which exact model you have. You need to know which models are L3 capable (such as the 3550). The 3500XL is not, as a matter of fact, it was a very popular L2 switch...about 20 years ago...;)
