You do. YOu physically connect the phone line for the DSL line (RJ11) into the RJ11 port on the wic-1adsl. Essentially DSL is PPPOE or PPPOA over atm. Insert the WIC-1adsl into the router and you will see an atm interface.

Hello,

have a look at these documents:

HTH,

Dear Sir,

Your link is very valuable but I'm lost in this vast amount of information. All I have is a simple DSL service from SBC and want to replace the DSL modem with my Cisco 2611 router + WIC-1ADSL. Your first link is showing the config on an ATM interface which I don't think it's applicable to my case. Second link is too much to absorb. So could you please elaborate a bit more for me. Deeply appreciate your help.

Configs cut in short. This config has been tested with SBC ADSL line using PPPOE on a 1800.

thank you, Sir. do I need to config the ATM interface eventhough I don't have one physically ?

thank you very much.

If you have enough DRAM/Flash and the proper IOS and all the hardwares work fine, you should be able to see an ATM interface for your WIC1-ADSL.

sh ver to see if you have an ATM interface. If not, check your DRAM/Flash and your current IOS feature set and version.

could you help with this issue ? DRAM/flash and IOS requirements. Thank you.

Do paste a sh version output in your next post.

12.0.3T

24M RAM

8M flash

You need a min of 12.2.T IP Plus. The below are the ones you can download (shows GD as well as Deferred releases)

General Deployment (GD)

and Limited Deployment (LD)

12.2.29 (GD)

12.2.28a (GD)

12.2.27a (GD)

12.2.26a (GD)

12.2.23e (GD)

12.2.12l (LD)

Deferred Release (DF)

12.2.27 (DF)

12.2.26 (DF)

12.2.24a (DF)

12.2.19c (DF)

12.2.12k (DF)

12.2.2-XN (DF)

12.2.29 requires 48 MB ram and 16 mb flash. I would suggest moving to a 12.3 train as the IOS is newer and free of bugs. 12.3 might need 64 Mb dram with same 16 mb flash.

Supported IOS versions can be found here.
