Hi all,
I have a WS-SUP720-3B. But I forgot its password, so I tried to recover password , FAILED
First of all, I entered ROMmon mode using Ctrl+Break, and then enter "confreg 0x2142" command.
Router>en

But above contents appeared again.
----------------
In the manual, they provided method to recover password. ↓
rommon>confreg 0x2142
You must reset or power cycle for new config to take effect.
rommmon>reset
When I tried its command, "You must reset or power cycle for new config to take effect." did not indicate on the screen.
just did below contens
rommon>confreg 0x2142
rommon>reset
How can I recovery my device?...
Can you recommend another method to recover?
Thank you and Regards,

Did you Ctrl+Break before or after the "Changing console ownership to route processor" message? It should be done after the RP takes over...

So far I've worked with SUP2, SUP32, SUP720 and RSP720 and that message was there on the console each time any of them got rebooted :)...
If unsure, just capture the whole console output to a file during boot time, and then search through the file for that message, to get an idea about when it occurs.

Yes it is sure it will appear and it is important that you break in to rommon after that to recover password.
Please see the snip document.
he boot sequence is different on the Catalyst 6500/6000 and Cisco 7600 that run Cisco IOS System Software than the Cisco 7200 Series Router because the hardware is different. After you power-cycle the box, the switch processor (SP) boots up first. After a short amount of time (approximately 25 to 60 seconds) it transfers console ownership to the route processor (RP (MSFC)). The RP continues to load the bundled software image. It is crucial that you press Ctrl-brk just after the SP gives over control of the console to the RP. If you send the break sequence too soon, you end up in the ROMMON of the SP, which is not where you should be. Send the break sequence after you see this message on the console:
00:00:03: %OIR-6-CONSOLE: Changing console ownership to route processor
After this point, the password recovery is the same as a normal router.
Hope this helps and kindly remember to rate all useful posts.
Thanks,
Madhu.
