Hi

I have cisco 3845 and 2821 with Advance enterprise IOS.

Request you to advice if we need to purchase another IOS -Advance Enterprise T Version (Cisco 3800 Advance Enterprise IOS -  S384AESK9-124xx (T)) which is required to support our technology needs (HWIC1FE/HWIC-2FE cards) if we have already purchased and have installed Advance Enterprise IOS without (T) version.

I am told that if we are upgrading from Advance Enterprise to Advance Enterprise (T) Version IOS, there should not be cost involved. Please Confirm.

No service contract is purchased for the IOS.

Your feedback is required ASAP.

Thanks.

I don't think that you need to pay for anything. If you are on ADV Enterprise, you could simply move to the T train of that version.

Amit

Can you explain how this works from Cisco's perspective ie. each new train has many more features that have been developed at presumably considerable cost to Cisco.

So if i had version 12.2 advanced IP Cisco are perfectly happy for me to go to 12.4T as long as i keep the same feature set ??

Jon

Jon,

You are right in saying that every new IOS has newer features, so there is some cost associated with it. I guess my response isn't clear & somewhat confusing.

If customer can download the IOS or has the IOS in some flash card already, then he wouldn't really need any license from Cisco to install it on the router. Whether you could download an IOS would depend on the kind of conntract you have. I guess I preassumed that in this case they already have the IOS.

In the ISR G2 series, even if you have the IOS image (universal with IP services) & you are copying it from one router to another, you will need to get another (IP services) license from Cisco for the second device.

Sorry about the confusion!!

Regards,

Amit

hi guys

thanks for your responses, but i am still confused.

i do not have the train version IOS with me. we just have the advance enterprise IOS installed in all of our routers.. since this would not support HWIC-1FE/ HWIC-2FE, i need to have adv ent. T versions.

Neither any contract is available for IOS downloads. how do i update/upgrade  to T version IOS ?

dynamic configuration tool shows cost involved for the train version IOS.

If you don't have the IOS & you can't download it either, then you would have to pay for it.
