ASR 1002-F Compatibility Question

So I have a Cisco ASR 1002-F and with no module I think it can only do 1 gig links. While looking at the modules I can see SPA-4XOC12-POS has 4 interfaces that can do 10 gig SFP's, but the data sheets are not that clear as to if it will support it. Can anyone tell me if this setup would work as I would much like to have 10 gig links vs 1 gig links.

Hello @ncombs1407621308 ,

the SPA supports 4 ports POS OC12 not 10 GE

>> While looking at the modules I can see SPA-4XOC12-POS has 4 interfaces that can do 10 gig SFP's

if you mean as aggregate your understanding is not correct see link below

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optical_Carrier_transmission_rates

Each OC-12 is able to carry 622 Mbps so 4 of them roughly counts for 2,4 Gbps

OC-48 is 2,4 Gbps

And of course you need to connect each of them to another POS interface at the same speed

Hope to help

Giuseppe

How to Ask The Cisco Community for Help

Its more of a question of if the device can do something rather than a requirement. So the ASR 1002-F has 4 fixed SFP interfaces which I assume are capped at 1 gig each (according to https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/routers/asr-1000-series-aggregation-services-routers/data_sheet_c78-441072.html), and so I looked at modules that would supposedly work with the ASR 1002-F. In doing so SPA-4XOC12-POS stuck out as 4 interfaces with the capability to use 10 gig SFP's, but as Giuseppe Larosa pointed out OC12 is capped at 622.08 Mbit/s. This meaning the module would be able to support 10 gig SFP's but would xfer less than a gig per interface or that's at least how I understood it. I'm also kind of bad at this so any help is appreciated.
