Hello,
as it says on the following page, the performance of the ASR1002-HX is 44-100 Gbps.
https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/routers/asr-1002-hx-router/index.html
So what is the standard throughput (unencrypted) and how can it be increased?
I can't find a selection option for such a license in either the datasheets or CCW.
Does also anyone know for sure if you need a license (which one?) for the extra 10G ports added by the EPA-10X10GE card?
Can I use the ports of EPA-10X10GE in the ASR1002-HX without any problems, although not all Built-In ports have been enabled yet?
Thanks.

I got the following answer from a Cisco System Engineer:
Throughput
ASR1002-HX with integrated ESP throughput is 100Gbps as standard.
ASR1002-HX has 8x 1GE and 8x 10GE integrated ports, but by default only 4x1GE and 4x10GE ports are enabled - this equates to a total port capacity of 44G. This is why it is sometimes confusingly referred to as "pay-as-you-grow performance 44-100Gbps".
Port Licensing
The EPA card "EPA-10X10GE" does not require a licence. There is no need to activate / unlock the first 10GE integrated ports before using 10GE ports on the EPA module. A port licence is not required for all types of ports on EPA modules on ASR1k.

If the router is supporting Cisco Smart License, post the complete output to the command
"sh license feature"
.
If the router is running versions that support CSL, then post the complete output to the command
"sh license status"
.

Hi Leo,
this is a hypothetical question, so I have no output.
But I don't see how the output should affect the answer.

The target market of the ASR are for customers who can "really afford" high speed (>1 Gbps) -- Called "pay as you grow".
Because of this, nearly every bandwidth function of the ASR has a license.
The "default" license is for 1 Gbps optics. For 10 Gbps optics, there is a license for that.
For SPA/EPA, another license.

Hi Leo,
the only port upgrade licences available for the ASR1002-HX are for the 4x 1G/10G ports that are not enabled out of the box.
As far as I know, these have nothing to do with the ports of the EPA cards, as you can only add the corresponding license [FLSA1-HX-2X10GE] to the router twice in the CCW.
If you add more than these two, you will get the following error message:
For example, if I add this EPA card [EPA-10X10GE] to the configuration, there are no warnings that an extra licence is needed to use the ports of the card. The only license available for the extra ports of the EPA card is [FLSA1-MACSEC10G].
Apart from the Crypto throughput licenses [FLSA1-2HXIPS8G / FLSA1-2HX8G16G / FLSA1-2HX8G25G], I cannot find a bandwidth license for the unencrypted throughput in the CCW.
However, I have an output from a unit that we potentially would buy.
Can you do anything with it to answer the initial questions?

IMPORTANT: I do not have a CCIE in "CCW" and I will not answer on how to "navigate" CCW.
The
"sh license feature"
output is very useful because it list, in a very nice and neat table, what features are enabled. (Sadly, this sub-command is no longer valid from IOS-XE version 16.10.X and later.)
The only license feature enabled on this router is "advipservices" and nothing much else. Even the optic ports of 1- & 10 Gbps are disabled.
01-19-2022 02:13 AM
Well, the answer is unfortunately not very helpful. The licenses listed in the outputs have nothing to do with my questions.
Anyway, thank you for your time.

The EPA card "EPA-10X10GE" does not require a licence. There is no need to activate / unlock the first 10GE integrated ports before using 10GE ports on the EPA module. A port licence is not required for all types of ports on EPA modules on ASR1k.
