I am installing 3 times VWIC2-2MFT-T1/E1 in a 3825 to provide 6 E1 connections running ATM PVC's. I will have 2 times AIM ATM installed in the router as each AIM ATM will only support a maximum of 4 E1's. I need to split my E1 ATM links into 2 bundles of 3 and therefore will need to split the two E1 interfaces on one of my VWIC2-2MFT-T1/E1's across 2 AIM ATM's. i.e. controller E1 0/2/0 will be on atm aim 0 and controller E1 0/2/1 will be on aim atm 1.
Will this configuration work?
Am I likely to encounter any timing problems?

Hello Steve,
about clocking it cannot be independent on each port for the ATM IMA
see
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/routers/ps5855/product_data_sheet0900aecd8028d2db.html
The Cisco 2-port MFT VWIC2s also can enable each port to be clocked from independent clock sources for data applications. This independent clocking capability is not supported for voice applications or with the Cisco ATM/Voice Advanced Integration Modules (part number AIM-ATM, AIM-VOICE-30, AIM-ATM-VOICE-30).
and about clocking concepts and options
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/3825_rano/configuration/guide/RANOcfg.html#wp1150547
and for IMA groups
see section
Configuring IMA Groups
under the controller E1 you specify
mode atm aim aim-slot-number
this should solve the question of how to associate 3E1 to one AIM and 3 to the other one
Hope to help
Giuseppe

Hello Steve,
your configuration looks like a good starting point.
the PVCs then will be defined under the atmx/imay object.
Hope to help

Thanks Giusppe,
I am happy with the sub-interface and PVC configuration, it was the AIM ATM, and clocking setup I was not clear on, but I think you have sorted that out for me now.
I will be setting this up mid-January when I go out to Mauritius. We would normally use MPLS, but the telco doesn't offer a layer 3 MPLS service yet, hence the need for E1's and ATM.
Thanks again,
REgards
Steve
