ATM LANE dual MMF module to PCI ATM adapter?

Hi everyone,

I am curious whether the "polarity" issue exists in the MMF world just as it does in the copper - what I mean is this: just as I need a cross-over RJ45 cable to connect NIC-to-NIC (or switch-to-switch) do I need a cross-over MMF cord to remedy a simmilar situation. The application at hand is this:

ATM LANE dual MMF module (inside C5509) needs to connect to PCI ATM adapter (inside a server). If the answer to the previous question was YES, then do I need a straight or cross-over MMF cord for my application?

Both connectors are SC

Thanks

Boyan

Boyan,

Didn't know anyone was still doing LANE. You guys running IPX over that? Only kidding -- I always liked playing with LES, BUS, and LECS.

To answer your question, the transmit on one side needs to talk to the receive on the other side, but since there are 2 connectors with fiber vs the single RJ45 with copper it is not really the same issue. If you try the patch cable and don't get a link light, just pop the retainer apart and reverse the SC connectors.

Regards, Dave

IPX? Nooo only SPX man!

Kidding, I figured I will pop the retainer apart and reverse the SC connectors.

On the other thing - can one connect an ATM PCI NIC directly to C5505 withouth the need of LS1010 in between which seems to be required on all examples? In other words can C5505 do all three LES, BUS, and LECS together?
