Can you please explain how can we determine which capacity attenuator is suitable for a given router (eg 7200 series),and please also brief what is the significance of attenuator in router environment.Thanks

It is used to avoid saturating or damaging receiver on optical and some electrical interfaces.

The specifics are different for each exact type of interface.
