Hi Everybody,

I using Cisco 1841 Router with WIC-IT card connected to Leased Line primary link. I donot have any other module in the Router.

Shall i use the AUX port (interface Async1) to configure the dial backup . I have CDMA modem. So that when ever primary Lieased line is down, it will act as backup. Will this solution work?

Thanks in advance,

RK

Hello R.B. Kumar,

1) this may come from the usage of other A/S ports to build a terminal server

2) the aux is a single port

3) yes and you need the correct cabling setup from rj-45 to RS-232 and you need also specific commands like dialer in-band

see

Hope to help

Hello R Kumar,

this is a right way to do it.

the aux can be connected to a modem and has been thought for out of band management but it can be used for dial backup purposes.

Hope to help

Hi Giuseppe,

Thanks for your response. It is indeed giving me confidence to go with this solution.

1.But then why people of using WIC-2A/S card for connecting external modem like PSTN modem. Why they are not using the AUX port which is inbuilt with Router

2.Is there any disadvantage in using AUX port compared to WIC-2A/S

3.Using AUX port shall I connect external CDMA modem/Phone with RS-232 interface

Hope you will help me in clarifying this point. Thanks in advance
