Available features in Cisco 1921/K9 correct?

Hello,

I have just recently purchased a Cisco 1921/K9. Before this unit, I used to purchase 800 series units. These units always had the same type denotation (i.e. Cisco887VA-K9). On these devices, I got features like IOS Firewall and IPSEC VPN. I therefore assumed I would have the same features purchasing cisco1921/k9.

However, with the newly purchased 1921/K9, I do not seem to have the required features (IOS Firewall, IPSEC VPN). Is this how it is supposed to be?

I had an issue after unboxing and powering-on the device, as the default username/password wasn’t working. This leads me to believe the device had been used, and the required features may have disappeared from flash. The current license on this unit is ipbasek9.

What should be the correct license/featureset on this unit, and what license/featureset includes the before-mentioned features?

Thank you,

Rob Kriekaard

Hi Rob,

The ipbasek9 is the default license for the 1921 ISR.  You would need to get the SEC license to support the features you are looking for.

Cisco IOS Software Licensing and Packaging

A single Cisco IOS Universal image encompassing all functions is delivered with the platforms. You can enable advanced features by activating a software license on the Universal image. In previous generations of access routers, these feature sets required you to download a new software image. Technology packages and feature licenses, enabled through the Cisco software licensing infrastructure, simplify software delivery and decrease the operational costs of deploying new features.

Four major technology licenses are available on the Cisco 1921 Integrated Services Routers; you can activate the licenses through the Cisco software activation process identified at http://www.cisco.com/go/sa.

• IP Base: This technology package is available as default

• Data

• Security (SEC) or Security with No Payload Encryption (SEC-NPE)
