BGP maximum-paths

Hi,

how many paths can I have in load-sharing with EBGP?

With the command-lookup table I have seen that the maximum is 6 and after the 12.3(2)T it was increased to 16.

But the problem is that I have some platforms like (7600 ; 12000) where I have:

(config-router-af)#maximum

paths ?

<1-8> Number of paths

Why I have 8 paths?? And not 6 or 16?

Thanks in advance

Gianluca

Hi Gianluca,

What you see here is a platform-dependent capability. I don't really know why Cisco supports 8 paths on these platforms and not the 6 that they do on the other platforms. In any case, it does not really matter. The number of paths is purely a local feature on the router and is not communicated to any other routers, so it's perfectly okay for you to use 8 paths on one router and 6 on others.

Hope that helps - pls rate the post if it does.
