BGP route filtering default route

I have the following router setup, myBGPrtr1<->providerBGPrtr0<->myBGPrtr2.  I am receiving a default route from the provider router and myBGPrtr2 is also advertising a default route.  Is there any way that I can somehow get myBGPrtr1 to prefer the default route from myBGPrtr2 over the one advertise by providerBGPrtr0 without making any changes on the providerBGPrtr0?

Thanks,

Diego

Hi Diego,

Does your diagram depict true BGP peerings? If yes then I see no possibility of doing what you need without some sort of tunelling.

Best regards,

Peter

Actually it is worse.  Since both of my routers connect to the ISP BGP/MPLS network the true peerings are probably more like this:

myBGPrtr1<->providerBGPrtrA<-><->MPLS Network<->providerBGPrtrB<->myBGPrtr2

I was hoping I could do something withouth having to involve the provider.

Thanks for the input

Diego

Diego,

Perhaps something could be arranged but do you believe you could sketch a more illustrative topology of your network including the depiction of the BGP peerings, and perhaps a short dump of your routing table on the myBGPrtr1?

Best regards,

Peter

Peter,

Our reason for trying to do this was to filter Internet traffic by running it thru a central location. However it seems like it will be easier for us to use WCCP from each site to a central filtering server.  So at the moment we are dropping the original plan of modifying the advertised default routes on the BGP network.

I appreciate your help and thank you very much.

Rgds,

Diego

Hello Diego,

I understand. I've experimented with WCCP a few times but I haven't yet gained sufficient experience with it - but I am certain that the other friends here on CSC are well-versed in the WCCP.

You are most welcome.

Best regards,

Peter
