hi
First, I read that for using boost licence on 4k routers we have to be in IOS 16.7.1.
What about other IOS release ? I mean 16.8, 16.9 ... ? and 16.6.6 launched after 16.7.1
Second question : do we need performance licence + boost to disable router limit bw or only boost is needed ?
Third : with boost, is it ok to get 1Gbps in routing mode with 4331 and 4431 ? only routing so for l3vpn by example (without crypto, no nat, no fw...)
thanks
Nico

Hello,
the boost license does not require the performance license. The boost license gives you line rate speeds, so if your physical link can handle 10Gig, the boost license will support it. 1Gig, as in your question, is no problem. Actually, if you only need 1Gig, the performance license would be sufficient.
According to the docs, to use the Boost performance license, the device must be running the Cisco IOS XE software version 16.07.01 or later. That means anything higher, inlcuding 16.8/9/10/11 supports it. And anything lower, such as 16.6, does not.

thanks for your reply
so with 4331 and 4431 as they have only gigabit interfaces so max is 1G if I follow your comments
thanks

Hello,
unless you have a 10Gig module installed, a 1 Gig interface will at max line rate 1 Gig of speed. That is why I said you don't need the boost license. Actually, even without any license (performance or boost) you still get 2.5 Gbps througput. If you are sure you won't be getting more than 1 Gig, you don't really need a license at all.

well what I read is :
default 4331 : 100 Mbps
default 4431 : 500 Mbps
with PERF
4331 : 300 Mbps
4431 : 1Gbps
with BOOST
4331 : over 2 Gbps
4431 : over 4 Gbps

Hello,
my bad, I was looking at the 4400, not the 4300 (and the info I gave was wrong even for the 4400)...:(
Table 4 in the document linked by Joseph is correct. So you DO need the boost license (but NOT also the performance license(.
