While in ROMMON, post the complete output to the following commands:

1.  dir flash:

2.  set

I typed in boot on rommon it loaded package.conf file after a few minutes it gave the router prompt. I typed in reload

gave the following output

WARNING:

Boot variable either does not exist or buffer is too small

This may impact autoboot of the router. Proceed with caution

Do you wish to proceed with reload anyway[confirm]n

Router#reload

BOOT variable =

CONFIG_FILE variable does not exist

BOOTLDR variable does not exist

Configuration register is 0x2122

Standby not ready to show bootvar

my apologies Leo I unable to type that command since it is now at the Router prompt.

To fix this, do this:

conf t
 config-registry 0x2102
end
wr

I still getting following message after applying the 0x2102 and reverted back to 0x2122

Router#reload

Proceed with reload? [confirm]

Force the router to boot into ROMMON.

When in ROMMON, enter the ROMMON command:  confreg 0x2102

It no longer goes into ROMMON mode not sure what I did it automatically loads IOS mode with Router prompt showing. If I may go back to original question how do I upgrade to the latest firmware and which one should I download from Cisco website when I did "Show ver" below is the output.
