C1111-8PWA-WS mistakenly factory reset

I was having issues in setting up a C1111-8PWA-WS for the first time and decided to start from scratch.  Unfortunately I used the factory-reset all command instead of using a paper clip in the button on the back of the unit and now I am in rommon mode and don't know how to get back to where I was.

Is there a way to get this unit going again?

Download the firmware into a USB flash and use the command "boot usb0:filename.bin" to boot the router into OS.

Will there be any issue with Cisco Smart License?

@90-Lowrider you can register again with smart license as its bound to the cisco profile. not for the device. generate new token if you have any specific licenses and install for router after reinstll.

Please rate this and mark as solution/answer, if this resolved your issue
Good luck

No.

Thanks.  I tried to download the file for IOS but it said I have to have a contract.  I've asked the company I purchased it from to help but still waiting for their response.

Yes access to the image is the tricky part of what you need to do. Hope the company that you purchased from will be helpful.

I've got a way to legally download the firmware without a valid Service Contract but you need to act fast.

Here's how it goes.

1.  Firmware files for ISR 1000 can be found HERE.  Note down the following:

  • Complete filename of the firmware (including extension)
  • Web address where the file is located

2.  Read this very carefully:  Cisco IOS XE Software Web UI Cross-Site Request Forgery Vulnerability

3.  Scroll down to the "Customers Without Service Contracts" section.  Read it.  Understand it.  Know your rights.

4.  Contact Cisco TAC (by phone -- The TAC email address has been shut down for good.) and provide the following information:

  • Serial Number of the router
  • Security Vulnerability (Step 2)
  • Filenames and location of the firmware (Step 1)

Good luck.

Do not procrastinate and act fast.  Act now.  Cisco is progressively taking out the "Customers Without Service Contracts" section because this is affecting the bottom line.

Thanks Leo. I won’t have access to the machine until Sunday but will try it then.
Seems like Cisco will provide me with an image to fix a security bug?

Leo, you are a genius!!!  I never would have found this.  I followed your instructions (got a little pushback from Cisco but with your guidance I got them to open a case).

I have the file and re-loaded the OS

I next followed the instructions to access the GUI from factory fresh ( https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/routers/access/isr1100/software/configuration/xe-17/isr1100-sw-config-xe-17/mgmt_interfaces.html )but am having a problem accessing the GUI.  I can ping the router but when I use either Safari or Chrome it won't allow me to access the GUI.  Safari says "Can't open the page because the page address is invalid.  I've tried several addresses.  Chrome says "192.168.1.1 refused to connect"

Good news is that the router is now assigning ip addresses (my MacBook received 192.168.1.7)

Thanks for the update. Glad you got it resolved.
