Hello everyone,
I recently replaced some EOL equipment because the vendor had set the WAN
port0/0/0
in the router to be used as LAN.
The LAN
port 0/1/0
is used as WAN and it is emphasised that this is the standard of the vendor.
I would like to know what impact this may have.
thanks a lot
Patrick

Hello,
The port is not a switchport, so you will not be able to assign the created L2 vlans to it. These WAN ports are dedicated for routing, especially with the internet. But you could be able to create a L3 connection to your line and use it as a connecting segment.

the WAN ports are two individual routed ports
the LAN ports are members of an internal 8-port switch
you can route between WAN ports and route between LAN and WAN
but the router setup wizard (day-0 setup) will configure LAN as inside and WAN as outside ports
the LAN ports may provide power to PoE device (on selected models)
there also may be consequenses regarding internal resources of the router bases on chipset used for LAN and WAN ports
so the choice of the vendor seems a little odd
It may be the case that the provider uplink is a vlan trunk instead of a routed link
that may be the reason he chooses to use the switched port to connect to the provider network
