any idea how to carry vtp over wan or any public internet ?
in the past we have been put vtund to carry vtp /trunking to accros public network but this configuration was not efficient
ciscoswitch 2950 --vpn--public internet----vpn ---ciscos witch 2950
can be setup like below ?
cisco switch 2950 ----public internet ---- cisco switch 2950 without a third party device?

Hi
i m not exactly sure about the type of connectivity here to get connected to the internet.
AFAIK the Local LAN can be extended thru MPLS VPN using either ERS or EWS which all are available with Metro ethernet based Service Providers
Second scenario again extending the LAN is possible without any vpns but for the same i think we have to check out something inline with EMS.

Greetings,
I would like to revive this thread with a slightly differnet scenario.
The objective would be to extend VTP protocol traffic across layer 3 links.
The current configuration (testing) is 2 vlans (3750s) utilizing ISL trunks to sub interfaces (3825s)doing IVR. At present all IP connectivity is working. I am able to pass traffic between vlans in all directions. The issue is I want to be able to make VLAN changes globally from one switch. At present the VTP traffic is not traversing the routed link. I have tried enabling l2protocol-tunneling and see no vtp packets being sent or received. I have verified VTP domain names (including case) and their are no VTP passwords configured. One 3750 is the server and one is the client.
Im open to suggestions on how to get the VTP data across the routed link.
I thought of doing IRB but that seems laborious for such a simple issue.
Enlighten me please.

it's seem impossibly doing this scenario with cisco legacy protocol, for extend vtp protocol accros wan ( another public network or metro network, i have been succes doing this with mixing router cisco and third party open source operating system ( linux, freebsd, etc) using vtun to encapsulation this vtp protocol accross any network
but , i have trouble to implementation use legacy l2protocol-tunneling
