Xmodem? On an 870? That is way old school. Out of fashion.
Starting with 870, and particularly 870, there is the option of using TFTPDNLD.

Option B:  Some 870 models have a USB port.  Transferring or even booting from the USB is way faster than using the archaic xmodem.

Console into the router and reboot.
Post the entire boot-up process.

Thank you for the output. Here is the problem

No bootable image file: flash:/
Unable to open boot file

Does your router have  a card in the card slot? If so can you reseat it and see if that helps? Normally the solution to having no boot file would be to obtain and load the boot file. But for a router that does not have a service contract I do not know how you would do that.

Hello Rick,

Thankyou for your answer.
Yes the router have card inside, but i think the problem not hardware but software. It have no IOS Into the flash memory.

Console into the router and post the complete output to the command "dir flash:".

If the router goes into a boot loop (and couldn't get into ROMMON) then the seller has done the "nasty" and disabled password recovery.

If this is the case, then go HERE.

hi Leo thanks for respons,

this is the result of the command; dir flash

rommon 1 > dir flash
unable to stat flash/: permission denied
rommon 2 >

The syntax entered is incorrect. It has to be "dir flash:".
Note the ":" at the end of the word "flash:".

your right thanks.

rommon 1 > dir flash:
Directory of flash:/

i have the same problem also

You have chosen to camp on to a 4 year old post. I wonder if you might have received more attention if you started a new discussion?

But you asked in this discussion so we will deal with your post here. So is it really the same issue? Did you buy a second hand router that did not have an IOS?

It seems that the original poster did have access to an IOS image file. Do you have access to an IOS image file? If so then the tftpdnld that was the solution in the original post should also be the solution for you.

Rick

Seems to be an IOS issue, try reinstalling the OS

These are three ways the router can enter ROM Monitor (ROMmon) mode (rommon#>):

  • Reload, initialize, or power cycle the router with the configuration register boot field set to 0
  • Reload, initialize, or power cycle the router without having a Cisco IOS  Software image to boot from
  • Press the Break key within the first 60 seconds of the system boot. The break function is enabled during this period
