Hi,
I have SUP32 installed in cisco 7606 router and I want to check the memory of Flash in SUP32.
Could you please suggest me how to check.

Hey Pulkit,
It's not clear to me exactly what you want to check. Are you wanting to check the available memory of a certain file system or just what is contained within one of them? The flash that is local to the SUP is 'sup-bootdisk' and 'bootflash'. To check each of those, simply issue -
show sup-bootdisk:
OR
show bootflash:
Let me know if this is what you're checking for.

Hi,
Actually i have recvd 2 SUP 720. Active SUP has one external flash memory but standby SUP doesnt has any external memory.
So i am arranging an flash memory for standby. So i need to confirm that how much flash I need on Standby SUP720.

Hey Pulkit,
The external flash memory is located in either disk0: or disk1: of the SUP depending on which slot the flash card has been installed in. In this case, it's disk0: -
* 1024589824 977829888 disk rw disk0:
You currently have a 1GB flash card installed there (as seen by the number on the far left which designates the 'Size'). If you want to match them up, you'll need to order another 1GB card for the standby. I hope this answers your question.
Also, for the record and for your reference, you have 512MB of flash on the SP of the SUP (sup-bootdisk) and 64MB of flash on the RP (bootflash) -
512114688 343441408 disk rw sup-bootdisk: sup-bootflash:
65536000 65500284 flash rw bootflash:
Let me know if that clears it up.

Appreciate ypur reply.
Do we have to have an identical hardware at both SUP 720????
Else if i will remove external flash from active can we have an active/standby failover???
THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Identical DRAM is necessary to run in a fully redundant SSO environment. If the DRAM amounts are mismatched between the 2 SUPs, you may receive an error similar to the following -
%PFREDUN-4-PHYSMEM_MISMATCH: Asymmetrical redundant configuration: Active [chars] has ([int]/[int]K) memory, Standby has ([int]/[int]K)
This error message is detailed at the following link -
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/docs/ios/12_2sx/system/messages/sm2sx06.html#wp1029555
As far as the on-board flash sizes, these don't necessarily need to be the same but it is good practice to have everything synchronized between both SUPs to avoid any headaches should a SUP switchover occur or be required. The CF card size doesn't have to be the same size either but again, it's good practice to have this synced up. As far as removing the flash card, because the IOS is installed in DRAM of the SUP on boot-up, it's OK to remove the flash card during normal operation with the card up. Keep in mind, however, that if your only IOS image is stored on it and you're booting from it, if the SUP goes down without it installed, you will be stuck in ROMMON.
