Choosing IOS for upgrade on 6509 MSFC2

Hello,

I need to upgrade IOS on my 6509 MSFC2. Below is the software version I have on the Sup2 and msfc2. The reason I need to upgrade the msfc2 IOS is that I need to implement ip sla/object tracking and it is not supported by the current version of IOS on msfc2. How do I select the new IOS that I should upgrade the msfc2, in order to achieve object tracking...I see a long list of IOS in the software download section of 6509 msfc2, but not sure which one to choose..

WS-X6K-SUP2-2GE: Sw : 8.6(4)

WS-F6K-MSFC2: Sw : 12.1(19)E1

Thank you.

You can go with s222-adventerprisek9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF17a.bin, or you can find the best suited IOS for your configurations from cisco feature navigator.

Hello Network User,

your device is running in Hybrid Mode:

catOS on supervisor2

an IOS image on MSFC2

the question is that you may need to move to more current Native IOS like the image suggested by  Yasif.

to check what you need you can use the feature navigator

http://www.cisco.com/go/fn

search by feature

type IP SLA

take IP SLA ICMP Echo operation

described  here:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/ipsla/configuration/guide/sla_icmp_echo.html

according to Cisco FN a possible image to be installed on MSFC2 ( ios for hybrid mode)

c6msfc2-jsv-mz.121-26.E9.bin

the conversion procedure from Hybrid to Native mode for supervisor2 is :

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst6500/hardware/Config_Notes/78_16872.html

if you need to convert follow the above procedure carefully.

then you can use a native IOS image.

Edit:

a link to reliable static routing with object tracking that might be useful

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/12_3/12_3x/12_3xe/feature/guide/dbackupx.html

in older IOS images the rtr object could be used

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Thanks Giuseppe and Yasif!

I will try to implement rtr object with my current IOS. If needed I will upgrade it to appropriate IOS..

Thanks!!

Hello Giuseppe,

I tried to implement the rtr object on my msfc2 IOS version. I could use all the commands except the "track" command to track the object. Do you kow if there is any other command which can be used on my version on IOS for tracking the object??

Thank you.
