I have a 2811 that I am using as an internet router. When initially configured, it did not set a username. I went to do some maintenance on the router this morning and it is now prompting me for a username. I have tried support, admin, cisco, sysadmin, etc, but no go. If I got thru password recovery, will I be able to reset the username? Thanks.

You should be able to recover from this by doing the password recovery procedure. Exactly what you will do depends a little on how the router is configured.
There are a couple of things that can result in the router prompting for username and recovery will vary depending on what is configured. If the router is configured with login local then you will need to simply reset the configured user name and password or create a new user name and password. If the router is configured with aaa authentication using local authentication then you would reset the configured user name and password or create a new user name and password. If the router is configured with aaa authentication using an authentication server you either need to find what user names and passwords are valid on the authentication server or you need to remove the aaa authentication commands that point to the authentication server.
After you have done the password recovery be sure to set the config register back to its normal value.

Rick,
Thanks for the reply. The router was configured for login local so it was quite easy to remedy.
