Cisco 2900 ( enabling Embedded-Service-Engine0/0 ) killed my router

Hello

I have a Cisco 2900 with SRE 900 running ESXI and the ISM 300 running CME.

I wanted to trial the Cisco Integrated Management Controller Express as it looks really cool/

To download this software I need to enable the Embedded-Service-Engine0/0 and get this Core working.

This is where my problem started.

My Router is now in ROMMON and none of the confreg 0x2102 /2142 is  going to bring this back.

below is the config I applied and the output I get now.

Config applied -

interface Embedded-Service-Engine0/0

 ip address 20.10.10.10 255.255.0.0

 service-module enable

 service-module ip address 20.10.10.11 255.255.0.0

 service-module ip default-gateway 20.10.10.10

Output

Readonly ROMMON initialized
program load complete, entry point: 0x80803000, size: 0x1b340

HI Jason,

Stupid question, but are you sure the correct dir to be looking is Flash0: and not flash:?

I am not too familiar with virtual switches and how they are set up. But I know on normal switches, when checking file paths and directories, the normal dir for an IOS to sit in is flash:

It could be that the router has been directed to fetch an IOS file from flash0: where it should actually be looking in flash:

HTH!

Regards, Morne

Hey Morne Maybe so ,

I just don't understand how that by applying the config to "enable the service-engine" has knocked out the flash.

I know that by enabling this interface enables the use of the 2nd core on the ISR , so maybe it kills the flash (and config) as well ?

lurking in ROMMON I don't even see the config anymore in "dir flash"

rommon 16 > dir flash:
program load complete, entry point: 0x80803000, size: 0x1b340

I am so glad that I tried this on a test/Lab router I have .

Hi Jason,

I see your point... very strange.

Maybe give a "dir flash0:" on the lab router? This probably won't help solving the problem, but it might shed some light on why the router is searching for a .cfg file there.

Thanks & regards,

Morne
