Dear All,

We have a Cisco 7206 VXR Router with NPE-G2. As everybody aware that, It has got 3 x Gigabit Ethernet Ports on this. We would like to add Two more Copper Gigabit Ethernet Interfaces. The Configurator does not show any options to add that...

Now we have a doubt that, Does this 7206 VXR support how many Copper Gigabit Ethernet Interface ?. There is no clear answer available in the Data Sheets..

Can anybody know or do you have URL which clarifies this....

Thanks

Hello Skylarkbir,

as it is explained in the link provided by Vmiller you can use only the three built-in GE ports

C7200 is still a SW based router and NPE G2 is not powerful enough to support more GE ports

actually the PA ports are mainly for WAN links ATM or SONET/SDH

even if you could install more ports they would be sub-rate

depending on your needs you may be fine with a multilayer switch that gives several GE ports at line speed

but with less features: for example NAT is only supported on C6500 with sup720 it is not supported on other multilayer switches

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Hello Vmiller,

The document is good. But still I am unable to find a clear cut answer in the document.

I just need a document proof somewhere that How many Copper Gigabit Ports will be supported by the 7206VXR like the recent datasheets on other products does mention how many ports the given switch / router supports in terms of a matrix sort off...

If you have any other document or URL, It would be highly appriciated.

Thank You.

Giuseppe answered it.  The document just illustrates how to do bandwidth points for this platform. that determines interfaces.

from experience, full line rate gig is tought to achive on this platform with any kind of heavy duty config.

3 additional gig ports (one on I/O controller, C7200-I/O-GE+E, two PA-GEs, one in a left and right slot).

PS:

As others have noted, a G2 doesn't have the performance to guarantee wire-speed for gig Ethernet (even two gig ports, let alone six).

The NPE G2 has three dual-personality ports:  Either SFP or Copper.

Now if you want to push 1Gb per interface, like what everyone of previous posts have stated, this appliance CANNOT do.  The entire unit can push 1Gb but not on a per-interface basis.

If you want an appliance that can push 1Gb per interface would have to be the ASR1002.   Check the PDF attached.
