Hi guys,
I am preatty new to the Cisco world and as such I am aiming for the CCNA certification. I got the ciscopress CCENT/CCNA ICND1 and ICND2 books and I am loving it.
Now to the question. I have a Cisco 877 router provided to me by Bell Canada. I don't have the EXEC password so I am really limited to what I can do with the router. Now, when i got the router, it came with a letter stating all the static IP's that I have with the sunbet mask and so on. Here is a copy:
BID Service & Subscribed Bandwidth Adsl extra 6 meg
ADSL, SPID or CKT Number
Installation Address
IP Addresses 70.25.250.16 up to including70.25.250.23
address assigned to the network 70.25.250.16
address assigned to the router/gateway
Usable IP addresses 70.25.250.18 to 70.25.250.22
address assigned to the broadcast 70.25.250.23
Subnet mask 255.255.255. 248
Primary DNS 67.69.184.7
Secondary DNS 67.69.184.199
Router Type Cisco 877
Now from what you can see 70.25.250.16 is a clas A network and the Subnet is Class C. I spoke to a Bell Canada technician and he assured me that everything is OK. So my question is, is it possible to have Class A network with a Class C Subnet or is it a mistake.
Any help to a newbie is appreciated.
Thanks

This is pretty normal. All they are doing is subdividing their class a down a bit its all still a class A network (first octet).
it varilable length subnet masking. It will be a very important topic in your studies.
