Hi,
I'm having issue with configuring cisco 877 router.
1. can't assign ip address to fa0 interface. getting error msg "ip address may not be assigned to l2 links".
i did "no switchport mode access" since "no switchport" command wasn't available but still got the same errors.
2. having issue with vpdn protocol
vpdn-group pppoE
request-dialin
protocol ??? <===pppoe protocol isn't available, i'm getting only one option "l2tp"
please advise how do i resolve it. i never worked on 877 router.
Thanks....

Hello Gavin,
2) in modern IOS you don't need the vpdn stuff anymore
check with show ver | inc image
see
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk175/tk15/technologies_configuration_example09186a008071a6c3.shtml
the comment says:
!--- These commands are needed only on Cisco IOS Software earlier than 12.2(13)T.
1) you may need to use an SVI instead of attempting to use directly the port as the first ports are L2 only
Hope to help
Giuseppe

Thanks Giuslar.
1) do you mean create new SVI ( VLAN) and configure fa0,fa1,fa2,fa3 ports to be a part of that VLAN?
Please advise. I'm really new to this series. even i couldn't find a good configuration guide for 877 router on cisco website.
Thanks...
