Hello.
We use all Cisco router in our business mostly 1841 and 871. But now i'm currently working with a new router:
Just purchased last week - Cisco 881
The Cisco IOS is:
Cisco IOS Software, C880 Software (C880DATA-UNIVERSALK9-M), Version 15.0(1)M6, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)
->System image file is "flash:c880data-universalk9-mz.150-1.M6.bin"
As all our router are Cisco we use EIGRP as our routing protocal. But with this router all I see is:
#router ?
odr On Demand stub Routes
rip Routing Information Protocol (RIP)
Where is my EIGRP :-(
Very frustrating as I can't configure eigrp, so my router wont be doing much routing.
Thanks and Regards,
Jonathan Haughton

hi jonathan,
you would need upgrade IOS with advanced IP services to run EIGRP.

Yes.
I was just starting to think the same. Looks like my router is Cisco881-K9, and I'm sure I asked for Cisco881-SEC-K9. So thats my problem.
Whats the best and quickest way to get my ios updated? I assume I might have to pay for this. Any advice please.
Thanks,
Jon

Hi Jonathan,
You need a Smartnet contract to download the right IOS from Cisco's website and upload it via TFTP running from PC.
Since this is a new router, why not ask your vendor to swap it together with the suggested IOS?

I think we may have ordered smartnet, but I'll need to check with the guy who made the order. If I look at the router today, and type show version, what I see is the message:
License Information for 'c880-data'
License Level: advsecurity Type: Permanent
Next reboot license Level: advsecurity
what does it mean that next reebot license level will be advsecurity?
Thanks, Jon

jmeu-indonesia01#show lic
Index 1 Feature: advipservices
Period left: Not Activated
Period Used: 0 minute 0 second
License Type: EvalRightToUse
License State: Not in Use, EULA not accepted
License Count: Non-Counted
License Priority: None
Index 2 Feature: advsecurity
Period left: Life time
License Type: Permanent
License State: Active, In Use
License Count: Non-Counted
License Priority: Medium
Do I need to do something to activate?

I ran into the same problem. You have two options, order a temporary liscence which will give you about 60 days I believe or buy one from your vendor. I learned a lot from this exercise, it seems as though Cisco's universal IOS requires you to get licences to activate certain features. There is a lot of talk about trying a different IOS but what you really need to do is buy and install a liscence and then possibly change which software the router boots with. You need advipservices to run eigrp I believe the manufacturer part number for the liscnce is L-SL-800-SEC-K9 and you can get it delivered electronically from CDW for about 100 bucks. Once you've associated with your serial number you need to tftp it to the router and install it. Good luck took me forever to figure that out.
