ONS 15454 - Management Software

The client is interested to obtain management software for  ONS15454. Is there a spearate sku or part number available ?  I never dealt with this product family, how do you manage the switch and how many devices can be managed via single management software?  The client is getting 7 of those switches.Any help will be greatly appreciated

the 15454 is an optical mux, not a switch.

the primary management application is cisco transport controller..

Thanks for the link .I found part number to support up to 10 nodes and that will suffice 7 node management requirements. Is there anything else to look for?

If this is the only piece of the puzzle, then I'd just make sure they get the right platform

to run the app.

If you are doing the network design, there is a planning app that cisco has (cisco transport planner)

optical design truly brings home the saying  the devil is in the details.

Right platform? you meant Sun server, oracle database and windows client?

Pretty much. Go through the implementation notes with detail. Don't cut corners on the server side, you will regret it.

I would also get with the local Cisco folks and see if they can get you contact with

a SME.

CTC is both management & provisioning....lots of chances to mess up.

CTC has no SKU. CTC is a java program bundled with the optical node software. When the node management IP is configured via the front panel, you can use your web browser to access the node and it will download CTC client and access via your a PC.

The enterprise solution is called CTM (Cisco Transport Manager) or now called Prime Optical. It runs on Sun server, and there is a UCS variance available right now.

Optical management can get complicated where you should talk to your Cisco sales team to ask for a Optical CSE or PSS.
