Cisco 881 router needs to be restarted always

Hi,

I have a Cisco 881 router wherein everytime a hotel is getting no internet connection, they will just restart the router and all came back to normal. ISP is not an issue here since we are getting connectiong everytime we restart. I tried issuing show interface commands and I cannot see errors on the interface. I suspect this issue is due to high load utilization of the router that requires restarting to return to normal. Please give me some ideas on this.

just now i get this error .

the fragment table has reached its maximum threshold 16". What does this means and what is the impact of it?

Is this the reason why we are getting this problem?

Can you post the output to the command "sh interface ".

I can't see any issues here (other than the "6 input errors").

Before you reboot the router next time, can you get a "sh tech" output and post it?

I don't believe it's a high-utilization issue.

i had the same problem, and also ruled out isp, cabling and other usual suspects as the problem.

i was left with IOS upgrade as the last step, but i also had the luxury of a spare router on hand.

i installed the spare router and its been working fine.

still havent done the IOS upgrade or returned the original router back to production, but hoping to do soon.

I will try the show tech if we encounter the same issue again. In addition, we are getting this problem not everyday. Sometimes, one day in a week it the problem occurs and about 2 to three times the router need to be restarted. There are some days that the router is running smoothly and no problem.

PS: I tried resetting the WAN interface by "shutting down" and "no shutdown" command and it also settles the problem.

Any idea?

Smells like an IOS bug if you have to reset the WAN interface.

i havent tried upgrading the IOS before. Usually how long will it take for the upgrade to complete?

Depends on your link.  Normally it takes about 15 minutes to upload the IOS from your computer to the router on a WAN link.  Then you have about 5 to 7 minutes for the router to boot.   Then if you have TACACS then add another 5 minutes.

isn't it advisable to do an IOS upgrade phyically (onsite)? i'm so afraid to this stuff remotely.

So, Im left with only one option but to upgrade the IOS? How about upgrading the firmware first? Will it help?
