Hi
We've purchased a couple of Cisco 887w routers, and I've noticed that the wireless module (AP801) keeps rebooting itself approximatley every couple of hours. The 887 router remains up but the AP801 module reloads.
In the show ver the reload reason is listed as:
BBU-Darton-WAP uptime is 59 minutes
System returned to ROM by power-on
System image file is "flash:/ap801-k9w7-mx.124-25d.JA/ap801-k9w7-mx.124-25d.JA"
..........which isn't very helpful.
I've upgraded the IOS on both the 887 and AP801 but still get the same issue. IOS versions are: -
- C880DATA-UNIVERSALK9-M), Version 15.1(3)T, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)
- AP801-K9W7-M), Version 12.4(25d)JA, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)
I've had one of the routers swapped out as well but the replacement does the same thing.
Done plenty of googling and searches but havent found anyone else with the same problem, which is surprising because we have had 3 887w routers doing it.
Has anyone got any suggestions?
Thanks in advance
Steve

On the 88xW Routers, the wireless Module is a device independant of the router
(ok, its connected to the on-board-switch and gets some power and configuration interface).
Simply, the access-point tries to boot, that is:
get ip -adresse etc, seek configuration, probably seek for a wlan-controller, etc.
If this fails for some time, it relaods.
That is the normal behaviour, also found on say 1131G accespoints.
(In the worst case, they have only the light-wight firmware and are very unhappy not to find their wlan-controller).
I would suggest trying to configure the wlan part of the 88xW (problay shutting down wlan) to keep it quit.

Hi Juergen,
The AP801 is running autonomous IOS so it shouldn't reboot every hour. Besides, the old LWAP IOS will reboot every 10 minutes.

Pardon, i had seen this on our two 1130ag when they were brand new
before up/downgrading them to be LW (and were unconfigured)
and bringing them under WLC control.
Did not want to lay out a false hint, sorry.

Anyone can make mistakes. Apologies un-neccessary.

Hi Steve,
Can you log into the AP801 after it does it's reboot and post the output of the config, the "sh version" and the "sh log" please?
NOTE: You're not the famous Steve Winwood, the musician, are you?

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the info. The sh version and the sh logs don't show anything unusual. If you connect to the AP801 and issue the command "dir" do you see a file or subdirectory called "crashinfo" or something?

I have exactly the same issue - I have 2 887W's with AP801's - one works fine, the other AP801 crashes whenever a repeater or xbox is connected to it. I can get the AP to reload as soon as I connect the xbox to the network - every time. Same with a AP1230 as well - every time it connects, the AP reloads.
The other 887W works like a charm - no issues at all. The wireless config, apart from the SSID and key, is pretty much identical.
Any help will be most gratefully received.

Hi
I ran the dir command and there's no crashinfo file listed.
Neil - have you got any special charcters in the SSID of the WAP thats crashing. We use a "_" in our SSID

One AP801 has "-lan" in the SSID, the other "-lab". Lab is fine, never has any issues - Lan is always falling over.
i am going to swap the config between the 2 devices - see if the fault follows the config or the hardware.

Config swapped between the 2 devices - the problem still happens on the same router, therefore I doubt very much that its config related. I have downgraded the IOS, with similar results. Upgrading doesnt cure the problem either.
Looks very much to me to this stage like its a hardware fault.

No crashdump files at all, by the way, as shown below:
