Cisco IOS Logging attacks

I currently have logging setup to send to syslog server.

Whats the best way to log port scans, and dos attacks?

Ive been reading some documents that say i need Cisco Secuirty Device Event Exchange enabled.

How do i know if this is enabled?

Im using IOS 12.4(20)T5 , does this have inbuilt SDEE and DoS prevention and notification?

Cant seem to find new information regarding this for the new IOS versions.
