Cisco IP Phone 8865 WiFi Client

Hi,

In our Lab environment, we are testing Cisco IP Phone 8865 as a WiFi Client.

Tel Load:             sip8845_65.12-8-1-0001-455

Router CME Version 12.3

When using the phone as a wired client, no problem; IP, TFTP connection, config download and voice register pool registration.

When using the phone as a WiFi Client:

WiFi connection: OK

IP in correct Vlan: OK

TFTP connection: OK

Config download: not OK

Phone keeps asking for a SEP<ETHERNET-MAC>.cfg.xml and not a SEP<WiFi-MAC>.cfg.xml

Anyone encountered the same issue?

In the document is a list with supported Access Points. In our lab the phones are connected to a third party Access Point, so I suppose this should be the problem.

A very old Cisco LinkSys WRT320N.

Cisco 8821 Phones are working fine on ths AP.

Very old indeed. The latest firmware update is from 2011. Which files are actually there in CME ?

The last one is the cnf.xml "wired", the one before that is the "wireless" cnf.xml. When on WiFi the phone requests the last one.

In the meantime I found a Datasheet Ip Phone 8865 which says clearly that only those AP are supported.

So pretty sure that this causes the problem.

I assume this is relating to the phone connectivity towards the cucm server?

If so is the firmware/config the phone is trying to download applicable for it!

Can the phone reach the cucm server over wifi
