Hello all,
I would like to know what technology is used to connect routers between cities? As in Packet Tracer simulator, we see a serial port is used between 2 routers to route between 2 different networks. Suppose those 2 networks are between 2 different cities, then what technology would be used?
Attached image for better understanding.
Thanks!

Hi,
There is no special surprise for Multicity or worldwide network. It is the same small and big bunch of routers and cables making a connection. Brand, model, routing protocol, media, other protocols, and features may different which are depends on requirement.
You can use PT-Cloud in the Packet Tracer simulator.

On a side note, serial links are getting extinct, simply because they are too slow. AT&T is testing, and I am not sure if they are already offering that service, 400G WAN connectivity.
HSSI (High Speed Serial Interface) speeds are somewhere around 50MB, that is about what you get with your ISP modem at home. For a small business that might be enough, but larger businesses require more bandwidth...
So pretty much everything, depending on which country you are in of course, is using some sort of high speed Ethernet and fiber...

Hi,
There are different methods to connect two offices which are resides in two cities. This would depend couple of things
1. Technology/Service provider is available in your premises.
2. Infra structure/Devices own at your end
3. Bandwidth/Speed requirement for your application or services are using between office
4. Cost
Below are couple of examples of connection methods
MPLS
VPN Tunnel over Internet
L2/L3 Point to Point connection
Frame relay
ISDN
Hope it got answer your query.
Thanks
