connecting Cisco Router 4300 to a centurylink C1100z no connection

Hi,

We are trying to connect a Cisco router 4300 to a CenturyLink C1100z modem, we've tried every possible configuration but cannot establish a connection to the modem from the cisco router via Static mode. but the router will connect through Bridged mode. Any thoughts on this? we are using a straight through cable to connect the modem to the router. maybe a cross-over cable is needed?

What was the configuration of the router interface when you connected in bridge mode? What was the configuration of the router interface when you connected in Static mode?

Hi Richard thanks for the reply, I actually do not know the configs that my network engineers did, but whenever they tried to configure the ip, subnet, gateway, there is no connection in static mode. all the tunnels are down. Sorry my knowledge of the configs is very limited. Only thing we have not tried is a crossover cable to the centurylink modem.

If you get a connection in bridged mode, the physical cabling is ok.  So, as Richard suggested, we need to see the port configs.

Thank you Rick, your question got me thinking. That was the issue, the ethernet interface was not configured. that did the trick. The router connected with the modem in static mode.

Thank you for posting back to the forum and telling us that you have solved the problem. I am glad that my suggestion pointed you toward the solution.

Hello,

in addition to Richard's post, what 4300 model (4351/4331/4321) and which port are you using, one of the onboard ports,or have you installed a network module, and if so, which ?

Hi gpauwen,

it is the ISR 4331 model modem. We are using g0/0/0 port, but we've also tried g0/0/2 ports with an sfp but no connection.  Sorry my knowledge of the configs is very limited. Only thing left we have not tried is using a crossover cable to connect to the modem. They've tried pppoe, no pppoe, but still cannot ping to outside net
