I have a dummy cable modem connected to g0/0 of my router and switch connected in g0/1. I am able to ping the outside world from the router but not from the switch and don't know where the problem is located please help.

Hi,
Most likely what is happening is that you are missing the PAT for users on the inside network to go out to the internet.
Dependending on the router this is how the configuration should look like:
ip nat inside source list 101 giga 0/0 overload
access-list 101 permit ip x.x.x.x wildcard mask any
int giga 0/0
ip nat outside
int giga 0/1
ip nat inside

Same answer for this thread too.
Enable IP routing in the device. :)
