Design Issue Load Balancing Traffic

Hello All,

I need suggestions on achieving load balancing traffic( T1 links) with the following network setup

Inside N/W-->ASA-->3560 Switch----> 2800 router -- T1 Link

(layer 2) |

|--> 2800 router--T1 link

I came across a few possibilities from my search

--Running any Layer 3 protocol on ASA and routers to load balance traffic

--Enable switch to do L3 functions and achieve Load balancing

--or HSRP/GLBP will be helpful in this situation ?

Dear Padmanabhan,

Are you running BGP with service provider ? If yes you can have a similar setup as shown in the diagram .

If it's not please let me know more details . Are you taking both connection from same ISP / no ? Do you have STATIC IP inside or you just need normal NAT load balancing ?

More information on the setup

--2800 routers are connected to same ISP and managed by them.

--ASA and 3560 are devices that I can configure to achieve this requirement.

--ASA doing NAT and currently 3560 is functioning at layer 2.

Since you are using L2 between the ASA and the internet router, you need to run GLBP. Though this will send the traffic via both the links, you need to ensure that the ISP is also loadbalancing the return traffic

Best way would be to use OPSF between the 2811 routers and the ASA and originate default route from both the routers.

Can you please provide additional details on Load Balancing with OSPF ?

Do we need additional CEF configuration to optimize the lad balancing function ?
