Difference between WS-X6148-RJ-45 and WS-X6548-RJ-45 modules

Hi,

Present in my 6509 switch I am using above two modules (WS-X6148-RJ-45 and WS-X6548-RJ-45 ).

Now my requirement is to replace WS-X6548-RJ-45 with WS-X6148-RJ-45 . My doubt is are they two interoperable modules?

The 6548 is a CEF 256 card - see http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/products/hw/modules/ps4835/products_data_sheet0900aecd8017376e.html

It has the highest theoretical throughput rates when used with the Sup720. If you have an older supervisor, you probably won't be able to tell the difference with respect to performance.

Why replace the cards though? For most purposes they are equivalent.

Pls let me know the additional features of WS-X6548-RJ-45, which are not there in WS-X6148-RJ-45. And what are the advantages over those features.

As far as I know, there are no differences with respect to functionality.

As noted there, performance differences are possible with Cisco Express forwading (CEF) 256 modules (such as the WS-X6548 models), IF one has the DFC installed and actually presents the switch with traffic rates in excess of what could be handled by the classic line card (such as WS-X6148 models).

There are other differences in the buffers, queues, and threshold granularity between the two modules. To be very brief the WS-X6148 does not have strict priority queues per port which may or maynot affect your QoS infrastructure. Yes, I suggest not changing. It would either have no impact, or potentially reduce your performance; depending on the load the cards are being presented and the use of QoS in your network.
