Drop related to routing between an Inter-chassis HA ISR 4431 routers

Hello guys ,

I have a very weird issue , actually I will try to be clear as much as i can :

we have a backup application located on a site 1 , connected to Site 2 , the DB is connected to a cluster of ISR 4431 working as a firewall for inspecting the traffic. However the cluster is connected to a wan router basically using OSPF as an IGP routing protocol.

the problem is that the wan router when getting the OSPF advertisement from both ISR routers  , he won't update the primary route and synchronise with the primary router of the cluster, in other word the wan router keeps sending the traffic to the backup router even if it lose it role from primary to backup .

normally with the Cisco guide the backup router will send automatically the traffic to the primary because of the HA config and the "alway divert " command , the VIP configured on the interfaces is based on the Inter-chassis HA.

Hello @Haithem_DKHAILIA ,

I'm afraid this kind of HA configurations are thought to be used with static routes pointing to the VIP address, using an IGP like OSPF may be an unsupported feature / design.

Hope to help

Giuseppe
