EEM used for failover instead of dynamic routing protocol

Hi Folks,

I have a financial customer that has is adverse to using a dynamic routing protocol to fail over from a production site to their backup(DR). They want to use EEM and IPsla to fail over after business hours.

Any suggestions, ideas or thoughts on this?

Thanks,

BC

So do they want a timed failover to happen regularly ie. at 22:00 hours switch over to DR ?

If not i can't see the point of not using a dynamic routing protocol to be honest. IP SLA is no more efficient than using a dynamic routing protocol and is only really useful when there isn't a dynamic routing protocol. Even with IP SLA there is no element of being able to time the switch over.

If the do want a timed failover then yes EEM together with IP SLA (or perhaps even on it's own) might be a solution. If this is what they want then i suggest you move this post to the "Network Management" forum where they deal with EEM questions.

Hi,

Can you please elaborate a little more? I do understand the customer wants to have a failover and that he wants to use EEM or IPSLA, both options are pretty good, my questions, does he want a secondary link to come up if the first one fails, or what exactly is he looking for?

Let me know.

Cheers,

Yanil
