Hi
I have a C887VA-M and am trying to configure it to connect to my ISP (Zen) using a BT Openreach modem, i.e. a via a PPPoE connection. Note I am not trying to set up VDSL directly (as I already have the ADSL RJ11 successfully configured for a different ISP).
This connection, via the BT Openreach modem, works fine on a C1841, to one of its FE ports, however I am finding that the C1841 is now too slow for my ~80Mb Zen connection. I can also connect directly using a PPPoE connection on my PC.
When comparting the two routers, the C1841 connects successfully like this:
However on the C887 it never gets past the PADI, i.e. no PADO ever comes back:
...
Relevant snippets of my config are:
interface FastEthernet3
description Zen BT
switchport access vlan 101
no ip address
pppoe enable group global
pppoe-client dial-pool-number 2
no cdp enable
!
interface Vlan101
ip address dhcp
ip virtual-reassembly in
zone-member security OUT-ZONE
!
interface Dialer2
description Zen PPPoE via FE3
ip address negotiated
no ip unreachables
ip mtu 1452
ip nat outside
ip virtual-reassembly in
zone-member security OUT-ZONE
encapsulation ppp
ip tcp adjust-mss 1452
dialer pool 2
dialer-group 2
ppp authentication chap callin
ppp chap hostname <myaccount>@zen
ppp chap password 0 <myclearpass>
ppp direction callout
ppp ipcp address accept
no cdp enable
!
The VLAN 101 is more for if I ever connect Zen to the VDSL port (I think BT infinity needs it to be 101, but I'm not sure about Zen, which uses BT network).
I am running ZBF on both devices and occassionally saw in the logs DHCP packets being dropped (and I'm thinking the PPPoE dialer must be sending DHCP to the ISP end) but not correlated to the PADI sending.
I can't see much different between the C1841 & the C887 (other than the extra VLAN config that the 887 supports).
I'm running 15.4(3)M1 on the C887. Unfortunately it went EOL last August and I didn't download the latest versions (I did have a 3 year SmartNet contract though which went past the end of August so possibly I could ring Cisco to ask for a later version if there's some kind of incompatibility/bug, though I suspect it's an issue in my configuration).
I've run out of ideas now, so all suggestions welcome! TIA!
Simon
