Failover internet traffic router cisco

Hello,

I wanted to configure failover internet between two routers Cisco 3800 Series.

Each router is connected to an ISP. I have configured HSRP protocol on my interfaces and my HSRP configuration works well.

I want to configure my routers to switch my internet traffic in case of failure.

For example,if the first ISP internet connection fails, traffic will switch at the second ISP.

I want to know how I should proceed to do this.

Thanks,

Hi Khadija,

Your HSRP configured on the primary router should track the reachability of the ISP device facing your router and lower its priority when its WAN link fails. The secondary router should then become the HSRP active router and all the internet traffic should then flow through the secondary, until the primary WAN link is restored and then the primary router (if HSRP preempt is configured) should take over and becomre HSRP active again.

Cheers.

Hi Said,

I configured my interfaces with HSRP (priority, preempt, etc. ..), but failover works only if the interface is down.

I want to configure my router to switch traffic even if my interface is active.

Can I use HSRP to failover my internet traffic even if my interfaces are up?

Thank you,

Hi,

yes you can by using enhanced object tracking: http://mellowd.co.uk/ccie/?p=827

Hi,

You can achieve it like that

on R1

Configure

ip sla 1 and track isp 1 gateway

Under HSRP

track 1 decrement value

So that R2 Become Active Virtual Router
